21st century teacher and Learner:
Lynch, M. (2018, September 4). What Does a 21st-Century Learner Look Like?
Expectations society has for children and teachers today are different from those in the near past. with the advancements we have in technology, We have more resources then ever at our finger tips. With these advancements teachers are constantly having to change the way they teach. They are expected to prepare their students with special skills they will need as an adult. This has proven to be difficult when technology changes every few years. Matthew Lynch created the display for a 21st Century learner. Matthew is the writer of one an online podcast/journal called the Edavocate. The Edavocate's goal is to help inform teachers and parents on ways they can better themselves in the classroom. "Future ready" is how many 21st Century students are referred to. The issue to this is that no one knows what this means, Buzzwords like this are typically not defined well and therefore and poorly modeled in the school system. Matthew Lynch used this idea of "Future Ready" students and created the diagram to explain what technological skills a 21st Century student should obtain to effectively use technology. Matthew Lynch explains that by obtaining these skills students should be able to cope with any changes that come to technology. This is very important because no one knows where technology will be in 5-10 years.
How do you like to use technology in your classroom?
TPACK Model:
This Model is to help educators as they begin to use digital tools and strategies to support teaching and learning. This is designed to support the idea that the content (what you teach) and the pedagogy (how you teach) MUST be the basis for any technology that you plan to use in your classroom to enhance learning. The center of the model diagram is designed to illustrate someone who has a full understanding of how to teach with technology. This is not something that is expected to happen immediately. This is a skill based model that allows teachers to move towards the center as they incorporate different skills. Think about learning to walk. A child first learns to move their arms. Then they gain the strength to crawl. After Crawling a child learns to stand and eventually learn to walk. So what does this model mean to us as teachers? We need to make sure that our teaching is informed and balanced.
